Susan Kay Fitzgerald Smith

Susan Kay Fitzgerald Smith passed away on August 6, 2025 in Raton, New Mexico.  Susan was born in Arkansas City, Kansas on November 28, 1951 to Delmer and Georgia Massie Fitzgerald.  

Susan was raised in Blackwell, OK; graduating High School in 1970.  She went on to graduate from Northwestern Oklahoma State University, after which she moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma.  Susan was employed as a Social Worker with the Oklahoma Department of Human Services, Kay County office for 39 years, retiring in 2014.  Susan was married to George Merle Smith on July 6, 2004 and they resided in Ponca City until retiring to Raton, New Mexico in 2014.  Susan was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, being active with the Church in both Ponca City and Raton.

Susan is survived by her husband, Merle Smith of Raton, New Mexico; brother Jon Fitzgerald of Oroville, California; sister Becky (Dale) Astle of Tulsa, Oklahoma; nephew John Fitzgerald (Erika) and their children Johnny and Jaxon of Oroville, California; cousins Ann O’Mealey of Tonkawa, Oklahoma, Jason (April) Farias and their children Holden and Camden of Collinsville, Oklahoma; and Anna Lena (Alec) Kashirskiy and daughter Elena of Houston, Texas.

Funeral services were held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Raton, New Mexico on August 14, 2025 with burial in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Raton
