City Wellness Committee Launches Inaugural Corn Dog Classic 5K to Benefit Associated Charities

Runners, walkers and county fair enthusiasts will have a new event to look forward to this fall as the City of Blackwell Wellness Committee prepares to host the inaugural Corn Dog Classic 5K Run during the 2026 Kay County Free Fair.

The race is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Blackwell Fairgrounds. Check-in will begin at 7:45 a.m., with the race starting at 8 a.m.

Organizers say the event is designed to promote health and wellness while raising money for a local cause. Entry fees are $15 per participant, and all proceeds from registrations will be donated to the Blackwell Associated Charities Food Bank.

“Whether you're a serious runner, a casual walker, or someone who simply believes corn dogs are a perfectly acceptable source of athletic motivation, this event is for you,” organizers said in announcing the event.

Participants who register by Aug. 1 will receive a free event T-shirt.

The race will take place in conjunction with the Kay County Free Fair, giving participants an opportunity to enjoy the fair’s activities after crossing the finish line.

In addition to recruiting runners, the Wellness Committee is also seeking local business sponsors to help support the event. Sponsorships are available for $100 and include recognition through event T-shirts, social media promotions, banners and other promotional materials.

Businesses may also contribute items such as bottled water, snacks, T-shirts, prizes or printing services. Sponsors providing donated items may have their business logo included on those materials.

The Wellness Committee hopes the event will become an annual fair tradition while raising awareness and support for the local food bank.

“Race for fitness, race for fun and race for a great cause,” organizers said.

The Blackwell Fairgrounds are located at 800 S. Main St. in Blackwell.
