Blackwell Chamber seeks volunteers for annual Homecoming cleanup

With Blackwell Homecoming approaching, local organizations are calling on volunteers to help make the community shine before visitors arrive for the annual celebration.

The Blackwell Chamber of Commerce, City of Blackwell and Blackwell Tourism will once again partner for the annual Homecoming Cleanup Crew on Tuesday, Oct. 7.

Volunteers will meet at 6 p.m. in the Homeland parking lot, across from the Top of Oklahoma Historical Society Museum. Cleanup activities are scheduled to continue until 7 p.m.

The annual effort focuses on sprucing up downtown and other areas ahead of Blackwell High School’s Homecoming festivities.

“The Blackwell Maroons Homecoming is a huge and festive event for our town, and we want downtown to look its best,” organizers said.

Community members, businesses and organizations are encouraged to participate. Volunteers may stay for the entire cleanup or contribute whatever time they have available.

Those participating are encouraged to bring gloves, trash bags, weed eaters, lawn mowers, shovels and rakes to assist with the work.

Organizers said the cleanup is an opportunity for residents to demonstrate both community spirit and Maroon pride while preparing Blackwell to welcome Homecoming visitors.

“Whether you can stay for the whole cleanup or just lend a hand for a little while, every effort makes a difference,” the Chamber said.

The cleanup comes just days before Blackwell’s 2026 Homecoming festivities, scheduled for Friday, Oct. 9.

No advance registration for the cleanup was announced. Volunteers can meet at the Homeland parking lot at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, ready to lend a hand.
